Abstract

Drastic developments in scientific collaboration and multiple authorship vanishes the traditional concept of authorship pattern. For the study 9585 citations and 2247 articles were taken from the international database TOXLINE. In toxicology research field multiple authorship has increased and single author contribution shows steep decrease in rate. Subramanyam’s author collaboration formula is applied on the data. The famous Lokta’s law does not found fit for the study.

Abstract

The article highlights the significance of Bradford's law in today's information age. The classical law is applied to the toxicology literature collected from the international database, Toxicology Information Online, (TOXLINE), and its validity on that data was tested. The data was found unfit for the law. Hence a new formula is derived and applied which was found fit for the study.

Abstract

The study explores the use of social networking sites among the scientists of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). A total of 153 scientists are working in the various institutions coming under KSCSTE. Questionnaire method was used for collecting the data. More than half of the scientists are aware of scientific article sharing, presentation sharing, blogging, image and video sharing. Maximum numbers of respondents are aware of Academia and Research Gate. Other science social media that are aware to scientists are Lab Meeting, Nature Network, Science 2.0 and Social M D. The ability to communicate internationally is the major benefit of social networking. Lack of time, problem of authority and trust, technology factor, unsure about moral right or copyright and slow internet speed are barriers faced in accessing social media. All the respondents depend on social media to identify research opportunities. Scientists use social media in the following phases of research such as secure support, review the literature, collect the research data, analyze the research data and manage the research process.

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the contributions in the international journal entitled 'Scientometrics' published during the period 1991-2014 as reflected in the Web of Science database. A total of 156 papers are found to be Indian contribution and that are refined from the global output (3016 papers). Analysis is based on the traditional bibliometric indicators by means of number of publications and citations. USA with more number of papers, and also received the highest number of citations. The study also observed that the total scientometrics research output of India constituted about 5% of the total world output. Multiple authorship pattern is dominant during the study period and is about 68.59% of the total Indian output. CSIR, Karnatak University and BARC are the major contributors of scientometric research from India.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to measure the job satisfaction among library professionals in Cochin University of science and technology campus library. Job satisfaction is an individual feeling which could cause by a variety of factors. The six components of job satisfaction were measures derived through literature: physical environment & ICT infrastructure, organizational culture, personal growth and development, salary, promotion and nature of work.5point scale were used to examine the job satisfaction of respondents. Questionnaire method was used for data collection and results are tabulated. Outcome of the study has been discussed that although library professionals working in this university library were slightly satisfied with their nature of work, while the salary, promotion, and denied access to benefits were identified as major constraints to job satisfaction. Based on the results, the study recommended that review the conditions attached to promotion, salary, among others as measures for enhancing job satisfaction. It is also suggested that the encourage and motivate the library professionals more incentives and good salary packages are to be offered so that their achievement drive can be activated that in turn lead to high level of job satisfaction.

Abstract

The paper examines the reading habit of tribal students of Dr AmbedkarVidyanikethanCBSE School in Thiruvananthapuram District. A structured Questionnaire with open-ended and closed-ended questions was used for collecting data. The questionnaire were distributed to 163 tribal students following Stratified random sampling method.The Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS) was used to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the tribal students read books other than textbooks. But the time devoted by them for reading is less than one hour. It indicates student’s low interest in reading. Thus the study conclude that tribal students need to improve their reading habit .
